Ashes and Dreams
Sound Strategy Music has been instrumental in developing the quick-rising profile of chillout | downtempo | dream-pop artist, Ashes and Dreams.
Shortly after launching a branding strategy for the band, Sound Strategy Music oversaw photo shoots, website design, the recording of its debut CD Heart of Stone - and led the video production team for Ashes and Dreams' first single, 'Left Right Left'.
Sound Strategy also negotiated Ashes and Dreams' signing by the UK-based Believe Digital record label - which will use its vast network of connections to distribute Heart of Stone across the globe on its affiliate platforms like iTunes, Google Play, YouTube, Dailymotion and other digital sources.
Since working with Sound Strategy Music, Ashes and Dreams has received global airplay on stations like Ocean Radio Chilled, Chilled Lounge Grooves, Stingray Digital satellite radio, DJ Ampz' The Deep Chill, CKUW's Shop Worn Angel, and CBC Radio. Lounge Masters International also selected Ashes and Dreams' deep chill track Heat Down Low for its world-wide compilation CD Lounge Masters Vibes vol. 12, released in June 2014.
Sound Strategy Music looks forward to increasing the band's profile in 2015 and beyond by seeking licensing opportunities, and launching a full radio promotion campaign targeting chill music programmers, satellite radio and other radio stations.

"All I can say is WOW! Instant favourite of mine. Solid vocals, nice writing... the entire package!...move over Blue Rodeo and The Eagles....the Bros. Landreth have arrived!"
Bill MacNeil General Manager/Program Director The Coast 89.7 Nova Scotia CKOA-FM
When brothers Joey and David Landreth decided to launch their own band, The Brothers Landreth, following the last decade supporting some of Canada's most talented artists from Doc Walker to Imaginary Cities, they retained Sound Strategy Music to work with their team to launch their brand.
First, we needed people to see and hear how talented this band was/is in a big way, landing their debut video "Tappin' on the Glass" into rotation on CMT Canada, then on the ZUUS Country music network, broadcasting in 40 major US markets. We followed up securing national radio airplay on CBC Music, Galaxie and commercial radio stations across Canada.
Maximizing the band's rapidly growing fan base and buzz across Canada, we secured performances at some of Canada biggest folk and country music festivals including, Cavendish Beach Music Festival, Winnipeg Folk Festival and Dauphin's Countryfest, prior to the band signing with Paquin. Additionally, we worked with The Bros. to present them at Folk Music Ontario's annual music conference, introducing them to key industry music contacts and talent buyers.
“Nadeau’s natural soprano voice added its own charm, performing What Child is This with sweet innocence as well as expressive Friendly Beasts.” — Winnipeg Free Press
It's an interesting juxtaposition. In the summer months, the Janelle Nadeau operates huge farm machinery, working the fields as a combine and swather operator at her family's grain farm in Fannystelle, about 50 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg.
For the remainder of the year, she lives and works in Vancouver as a classically-trained harpist. Janelle does not just play the classical harp, but Celtic and electric harp as well."It weighs about 90 pounds with the case and dolly," says Janelle of her six-foot high pedal harp. She herself weighs only 120 pounds but manages to lug her instrument around with ease.
She also manages to perform songs with intricated subject matter with ease as well. For instance, one of the songs, Grant Us Pardon, was influenced by Janelle's 2013 visit to Rwanda. At an orphanage where she volunteered, Janelle met with genocide victims, and also had a chance to meet with an African father who was forced into war. "He had a wife and eight kids. He had to do the killing in order to guarantee the safety of his own family. That's what the song Grant Us Pardon is about," says Janelle. "Who are we to judge, when we don't know everything about a situation? Sometimes people are forced to make decisions that are extremely difficult. At the end of the day, what is needed is forgiveness."
Janelle's is already an accomplished musician. In 2008, she graduated from the Harp Performance Program at the University of British Columbia. She has been touring western Canada and the Yukon for the last eight years with the acclaimed music group Winter Harp, which performs Celtic, medieval, and classical music. She has toured with the Canada National Youth Orchestra, Home Routes and Manitoba Arts Council. She plays regularly with the Vancouver Opera and has played in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and she has even backed up Kanye West during a Vancouver performance.
"Jetty Road is a band to watch - literally. If their WE Fest performance was an indication of what's coming, move over Keith Urban - there's another Aussie act headed for the top."
Chryll Sparks - WE Fest - Detroit Lakes, MN (Partner and Talent Buyer)
When Jetty Road, Australia's two-time Country Music Awards of Australia (CMAA) (Australia's equivalent to our CCMA) "Group of the Year", wanted to break into the North American market via Canada, they retained Sound Strategy Music.
Country radio airplay is paramount to any artist's success. To gain two-parts CanCon status for country radio airplay in Canada, we facilitated songwriting sessions with some of Canada's biggest country stars including Jason McCoy, George Canyon and The Higgins. The result, a number of tracks charted successfully on both the Canadian BDS and Mediabase charts, plus video airplay on CMT Canada, CMT USA, Zuus Country Network (USA). Manitoba note: We also arranged for Jetty Road to co-write with Chris Burke-Gaffney and Keith Macpherson. Together, they wrote "Serves You Right" which spent eight weeks at #1 on the Australian country music charts.
We then brokered a producer deal for the band's latest album with award-winning BCCMA producer, Paul Shatto - recorded in British Columbia. With demo tracks in hand, Sound Strategy Music solicited and negotiated a record deal with OnRamp/EMI based in Nashville - one of Canada's premiere country record labels. On Ramp President Louis O'Reilly commented that the deal was contingent on Sound Strategy Music's continued involvement.
Next, we went to work on getting the band slots at high-profile showcases and major country festivals. We landed Jetty Road main stage slots at some of the biggest country music festivals in North America including, Big Valley Jamboree, Cavendish Beach Music Festival, WE Fest (USA), Merritt Mountain Music Festival, Capitol Hoedown and more, plus a coveted opening slot at the 2010 CCMA "Kick-Off Party".
Keith and Renee
"Man, I just dig Keith & Renee …I always crank it up when it ("Feel Good Thing video) comes on!"
Kent Bailey, Program Director ZUUS Country Network (Nashville, USA)
When Keith & Renee (KAR) wanted to crossover from pop to country, they retained Sound Strategy Music for a comprehensive radio promotion campaign. First we introduced them to Canadian country radio programmers with the single "Just the Way You Are". Then we released KAR's break though country single "Wildflower" to country radio and launched an aggressive cross-country radio campaign to reinforce the dynamic duo as 'ones to watch' for programmers.
As a result, "Wildflower" topped out at #51 on the influential BDS country music chart. Furthermore, the track received heavy airplay on BDS Nielsen/Mediabase reporting stations in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Kelowna, Penticton and Vancouver. By the time, we were finished with the four month long campaign, country radio programmers from coast to coast to coast knew exactly who KAR were and continue to embrace them favourably.
Sound Strategy Music also garnered significant pubicity coverage for KAR on its western Canadian tour with Jann Arden and for the duo's last CD release party, including securing a taping by CBC's Canada Live, broadcasting the show across the country.
Following a year of radio and publicity support, Keith and Renee was awarded its first major industry award at Breakout West for Country Recording of the Year (2012).
Most recently, we designed KAR's new website www.keithandrenee.com and we are assisting their record label, Warner Music Canada, with some video promotion, landing the video on regular rotation on the ZUUS Country Network based out of Nashville, USA.

"A cross between Mumford & Sons and The Supremes."
Tom Power, CBC Radio 2 Morning Show Host Watch this!
When the members of Sweet Alibi decided they wanted to grow musically from a folk trio to a roots/pop group with its latest album, We've Got To, one of their key objectives was to become more marketable and accessible to fans and the music industry. The group retained Sound Strategy Music to achieve this objective.
We worked with the band to develop their image, craft their story and shape their brand. We designed their website and marketing material; and then got to work on promoting and marketing them across Canada. Some of the highlights of the campaign include national airplay on CBC Radio 2, including four weeks in the top 5 on the CBC Radio 2 Top 20; national airplay on CBC Music's online channels Sonica, Songwriters and Adult Alternative Streams and national airplay on Galaxie's popular Adult Alternative channel , commercial airplay in major Canadian markets and much more!
Following a year of radio and publicity support, Sweet Alibi was awarded its first major industry award at Breakout West for Roots Duo/Group Recording of the Year (2014).
Additionally, we invested our time and resources to officially present Sweet Alibi at Folk Music Ontario's annual showcase. The investment paid-off significantly as in-person contacts with key talent buyers has resulted in our company successfully negotiating performances at some of Canada's major folk and roots festivals. We secured slots for Sweet Alibi at major folk music festivals including Winnipeg Folk Festival, Home County Folk Festival, plus smaller, but equally coveted slots at Trout Forest and Jasper folk festivals. We also landed Sweet Alibi performances at music series at Dundas Square (Toronto) and the Haliburton Folk Music Society.
Website (and so much more...) coming soon!
A prominent, well-known western Canadian blues rock band (that shall remain nameless until the BIG re-launch) is completely re-branding its image, its marketing material, website and name. Their new name is Y Brothers and you can have a sneak peak at their new logo above. This is true brand management utilizing most of our support and toolbox and we're so excited to a part of their ambitious plans!
Tired of the inconsistency and lack of control with current online marketing platforms, we're working to initialize Top Spin Media for Y Brothers' back catalog of music, merchandise and new memberships, plus utilize all of Top Spin's tools to grow their fan base. And, we'll be working with them every step of the way as the band records its latest CD in late-2014 with a projected release date in early 2015.
