THE IDGETS ENVISION THEIR OWN IDEAL WORLD
WITH NEW SINGLE, “AVATARS”

 

(Winnipeg, MB – January 18, 2010) Winnipeg’s The Idgets are releasing their newest CD – with the lead track, Avatars - exactly one month following the public release of James Cameron’s smash hit film, Avatar.

Avatars is the futuristic-themed single from The Idgets’ new modern rock CD, New is the New Old. The catchy chorus rings: “We could be avatars, we could shine like the stars, with desire in our hearts, in a place of living art.”

Unlike the movie’s animated characters, however, the song portrays avatars in a different context. The Idgets’ song Avatars suggests that ideals like truth and justice and love can live through human beings.

The Idgets’ lead singer/lyricist Shawn Bergen explains: “Specifically, James Cameron offers the idea of an avatar as the embodiment of a person. It’s a term commonly used in video game lingo. Mine is the embodiment of an ideal. Both are legitimate dictionary definitions.”

The timing of the CD release is coincidental, but fitting, considering both Cameron and The Idgets are Canadian artists. Avatar, the movie, has already grossed over $1 billion worldwide, making it one of the highest grossing films of all time. The Idgets aspirations, meanwhile, involve creating one new fan at a time.

New is the New Old delves into the human condition, addressing a loss of faith in communication, religion and politics. Yet it also exudes an overall hopefulness, a desire of better things to come.  The CD is stocked with sensational tracks including It’s All True (Except the Facts), and the Pursuit of Happiness meets Stone Temple Pilots tune, The Palestine Hotel.
